Life: Baby Fever (Revisited)

Life

If you remember this post you know that the hubby and I are content with not having any kids right now.  In March I had three cousins who were pregnant and now two of them gave birth and they are extremely happy.  I talked about their baby showers here.  Tomorrow is my cousin wife’s baby shower and for some reason I’m overwhelmed with baby fever.  The closer the due date gets here the more excited the whole family gets.  My cousins wife will be having a little girl and the excitement is certainly in the air but so is the pressure to have our own children.

Every time I’m at a family reunion they look at my cousin’s wife and then look at me and ask the dreaded question, “When are you guys having kid?”  I used to give every excuse in the book but no answer satisfied their question.  Nowadays, I simply reply after we purchase a house.  You would be surprised at the reaction I get from people when I utter those words.  What they don’t know is that housing is extremely high where we live and we are a few years away from taking that plunge.  This my friends has saved me many arguments with my in-laws and the rest of the family.  I mean who’s going to argue with you when you say that you want to have a house where a child could run around and play free.  Think back to Miranda and Steve from Sex and the City or Monica and Chandler from Friends both couples wanted to move out of the busy city into the suburbs to raise their families.

Going back to the whole baby fever things.  Not wanting children right now doesn’t mean that I’m not interesting at looking at baby stuff.  I mean who doesn’t love to look at rubber duckies, little pink dresses, princess everything, and so on.  It fascinates me how much stuff a baby actually needs. Seriously can someone please tell me why a little 10 pound child needs so many accessories?  I’m rambling on about the whole baby situation because I’m bombarded with it every time someone remembers that I’m married.  For the time being I hope this baby keeps me out of the lime light for awhile until we actually decide to have our own children.
Anyone else feeling the pressure from your family to procreate? Anyone else simply enjoying their marriage without children?

Life: On Growing Up (Pt. 2)

Life

If you previously read my post you learned that I’m no longer following my childhood dreams.  As I’ve grown older I have developed other dreams that have nothing to do with what I thought I previously wanted.  Growing up I always thought having a career was far more important than having a family and settling down.  The ideas I entertained as a child revolved around being a successful attorney at a large corporation (in their pro bono division), having a fancy house, a few cars, money in the bank, and I would traveling the world.  As I’ve grown older I realized that those dreams do not coincide with the type of individual I have become.

I have finally realized I was chasing after a dream for all the wrong reasons.  I wanted to be an attorney to help people and I believed that learning law was the only way I could accomplish it.  I now realize that I can give more of myself to others by being being true to myself.  I’m glad that I figured out that I don’t want to go to law school before I went into debt for it and joined the hundreds of
bitter attorneys out in the world.  The childhood ideas I entertained are now partially relevant to the goals and dreams that I have but in a smaller scale.  I no longer want a fancy house but a simple one with a back yard where I can grow a garden.  I’m perfectly content with only having one car and I’m glad that we are fortunate enough to have some money saved up.  I haven’t traveled the world yet but we are working towards that.

Now that I’m all grown up I finally know what I want to be and I couldn’t be happier.  I want to help people and I will continue to do so for as long as I can.  For those that might be curious I am not currently “working” but I do put my time to good use.  I’m a full time housewife, an entrepreneur, and a part time volunteer at a couple of worth while causes.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Life: On Growing Up (Pt. 1)

Growing up, Lawyer, Life, LSAT

When I was a little girl I wanted to be an attorney when I grew up.  I wanted this more than anything else and against all the odds I was almost close to realizing my childhood dream.  I was always proud to tell people that I knew exactly what I wanted to be unlike my peers who didn’t.  I mean seriously what 6 year old knows what they want to be when they are older.  I did such a great job convincing people that I was going to be an attorney that I lost track of the things that really made me happy and why I wanted to be one in the first place.

Things began to change last year when I realized that life as I knew it is not as easy as I thought it was when I was a child.  Law school is not only expensive but it also requires a lot of commitment.  If I was going to attend law school I would have had to put the wedding aside and everything else for that matter to concentrate on the LSAT.  Before I made a decision I read this book, this book, this book, and many more which I suggest if anyone is considering being an attorney should. Since at this point in my life I’m not ready to make that financial commitment and I’m not willing to give up 3 years of my life I have decided to set aside this childhood dream in the attempt to pursue bigger and better endeavors.

The problem I find myself in now is not knowing where to go from here.  I read the books, I did my homework, I worked my butt off, and now that it’s all said and done where do I go from here.  How do I begin the transition process?  I feel now how the other 6 year olds felt so long ago.  I did such a great job convincing everyone who I wanted to be that somewhere along the way I lost myself.  The hard part for me is not finding a job but trying to pin point exactly where my passion lies.  If you haven’t noticed I love to bake and take photos but who doesn’t, right?  Along the years I have become more realistic about my capabilities and I realize that there are countless of people out there that are better qualified bloggers, bakers, and photographers than me.  I know what you’re thinking right about now, this girl is depressing me with this post but stick with me I have a point to make.

When I got married I never realized that I was going to have such a supportive and loving husband that would encourage all the crazy shenanigans I do.  I have an opportunity now that many would dream about including myself a few years back.  I am able to be anyone I choose to be.  Isn’t that crazy?  Throughout the years nobody except my hubby ever told me, “You don’t have to be a lawyer if you don’t want to, you can be a _______ instead.” When he uttered those words it was like a heavy load had lifted.  Many had said to me that I couldn’t do it but nobody every mentioned that there was nothing wrong with changing my mind. What a concept?

Here’s an interesting article on the subject matter.

Life: Lazy Sundays

Life, Movies

Recently we began to subscribe to Netflix and I’m sad we didn’t decide to do this sooner. We used to get our movie from Redbox or we would watch whatever was on television. We are officially addicted to instant movies and we are not afraid to admit it.  We began our subscription with the free 30 day trial but we soon realized that the monthly charge is worth every penny.

One of our favorite categories is romantic comedies.  What can we say we are cheesy people that love to laugh.  I wanted to share with you some of our favorite romantic comedies.  This list is not complete and is not in a particular order but you’ll get the idea of the types of movies we enjoy watching.

I love this movie even if it’s completely predictable.  The best part is that towards the end of the movie they play one of my favorite songs of all time.

This has to be one of my favorite if not my favorite movie of all time.  When my best friend saw this movie he looked at me and said, “Wow, that was totally you.”  The best part about this movie is that it’s French.

I can’t say enough about this movie.  How can you erase true love out of your mind.  I love Clementine.

This movie follows love in different manners and one of my favorite parts is of the guy who is love with his best friend’s wife but can’t have her.

I love this movie because it’s so different than the rest because it’s a story about love.  I love how the characters draw you in.  My favorite part is this part.

Always a bridesmaid never a bride.  I love this film because I get to see different types of dresses and the bar scene.

I love this movie because it has a wedding in it.  I love that she had the audacity to question her parents values and forms her own.  I had a Big Fat Mexican Wedding.

What romantic comedies do you suggest we should put on our list as a must watch?

Sweets: The Best Pancakes…

Baking, Banana, Cooking, Pancakes, Recipes, Sweets

...well at least thus far.  Growing up as a child my mom used to make us pancakes on the weekends, the box kind.  When I worked at the "Happiest Place on Earth" everyone used to eat pancakes at the restaurant where I worked but I used to get them from the employee diner, the pre-made stuff. Now as an adult I decided that it was time to kick the box and pre-made habit and make them from scratch.

I searched all around the web until I found a recipe that I believed deserved some attention and where I can use up some buttermilk I had.

Sweets: Cake Balls, Bites or Pops?

Baking, Cake Balls, Cake Pops, Sweets

My latest obsession has been with Bakerella and the fabulous creations she makes.  I began to stalking her blog last year but I hadn't dared to make any of her wonderful looking cake balls or bites or pops until now.   Like I previously mentioned here I wanted to make something special for my cousin's baby shower and I decided to give these cake balls a try.

Life: Giving Back through Sewing

giving back, Life
I know there are lots of crafty people out there that are willing to put their mad skills to good use.  Craft Hope is asking for your help in making pillowcases for terminally ill children.  I’m not very good with sewing (more like I’m not really into it) but I am going to take on the challenge either way.  Please check out their post Project 9 for more information.  The deadline for the pillowcases is September 15, 2010 so please take on this worthy challenge and spread the word to all your crafty friends.

Blogging: Is That Whack

Life

My friend began her own blog this week and I wanted to share it with you guys.  The only way to really describe her blog is awkward, funny, raunchy, and definitely not for the faint of heart.  If you are ready to come out of your comfort zone you should stop by at Is That Whack and read for yourself the musings of my friend Miss Wackney Houston.

If you’ve ever wondering if something you or someone you know does is whack please head over and summit a question.  Don’t worry you don’t have to tell her your real name.

Update: She has now started a new blog meanBUTfunny where she honestly herself. If you get a chance you should check it out because its really entertaining.
