Is that a clown? Oh, no that’s just the bride.

Make-up, Wedding
The thought of globes of make up on my face makes my FI cringe.

Source

Seriously though since I usually don’t wear any make up he actually voiced his opinion about the subject matter. He simply asked if I could keep it simple and natural. Since I was already planning on doing it I agreed. I thought it was really cute that he has thought about it enough to ask me. Although I do enjoy the idea of getting dolled up and paying someone (for the first time in my life) to do my make up I don’t want to feel uncomfortable on my wedding date. I would hate to feel like I need to go wipe my face or something since I’m actually going to be splurging on this. My inner budget savvy self is attempting to fight off the urge to get it done professionally but I am doing it because I want great pictures.

This is the type of look I’m going for:

Natural
Clean
Simple
Soft
Pretty
Girly

These are the inspirational pictures of what I would like to have done. I hope that the amount of make up is just right and not to clumpy otherwise I might just take it off. ; )

I still haven’t actually scheduled my appointment for my hair and make up (see I’m still attempting to fight the urge) but at least I know where I’m getting it done. I love that the salon is about a block away from our apartment. Once I schedule my appointment and get my trial done I will post up some pictures to see if it’s anything like I just mentioned.

Are you getting your make up done or DIYing?

Veil + Flower = Just Me

hair accesories, Wedding

Like I previously mentioned I love flowers and it has gone to the degree that I am considering wearing one in my hair along with a veil. When I originally went to try out my dress I tried it on with a cathedral length veil and it was absolutely amazing that was until I looked at how much it cost. It seems to me that veils shouldn’t cost you half of what your wedding dress budget is. My mom and I considered making our own since she is savvy with the sewing machine but since she lives so far away it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. I thought that a good compromise would be to purchase an inexpensive veil and accessorize my hair with a flower.

I purchased a veil at JoAnn for about $7 which was 50% the original price since the store was closing. I know that it seems like something that might have been pulled out from the ’80s but in that case so was I. I couldn’t pass up such a great offer when I can envision grandeur things to come with it.

These are an example of the types of flowers I plan on DYIng. Once I actually do it I plan on posting how I did it and how it turned out.

This is what I am shooting for. It seems simply and hopefully it looks just as great on me. I toiled with the idea of wearing a tiara but I think this style seems more like me. I like to wear my bling on my finger not in my hair.

So what do you think of the overall look? Are you wearing a veil?

Save it or lose it…

Save the Date, Wedding

So the save the date cards (STD’s) is something that had not been done in my family before. A few of my family member including my parents have told me, “Oh, we received your invitation but it didn’t have any details about the wedding.” To which I had to explain to them how the STD’s work and why it is important to send them.

I basically told them that they are used mainly for people that are out of town and need to know when your wedding date is going to be. The reason you send it before is because obviously you don’t have your invitations yet and its way to recognize that they are indeed invited and they should plan around the wedding date. It is also a way for you to send information about your wedding website. Ideally they should be sent out about 6 months before your actual wedding date or as soon as you have set the date.

If you need more information on the actual etiquette regarding STD’s please visit The Knot.

Here are some cute ones I found in my journey for ours:

Both of the above STD’s are magnets and I think are a really cute idea however we decided to go with something that matched our invitations since it was going to be cheaper to order everything together.

Here are the STD’s we decided on from The American Wedding

I thought they were to plain so I added an orange ribbon. I made sure the ribbon was stuck there by adding a glue dot in the back.

To add a tad of character to the envelops we added tcool stamps from the USPS.

To give it even a more personal touch I addressed all the envelops myself.

The Proposal: "There is one way to ask her…"

Engagement, proposal, Wedding

On Thursday, April 5th, 2007 I reluctantly went to work because I had a terrible shift. I decided to call my love during my break and he informed me he was going to go run some errands. I went back into the location and pleaded with my lead to let me go home early. After annoying my lead long enough he agreed but only if I finished serving the tables on my station. I was excited since I knew there was nobody seated at my station. Little did I know that they actually sat a family there when I went inside the restaurant.

This made me worried because the parade was about to begin and I knew they were going to sit there watching it. Meanwhile, Bob, the Operations Manager, entered our location and looked worried as did my best friend Val, a manager. She came in and seemed to be upset and was avoiding me. I left things alone with Bob and Val and went along my way serving the family I had on my station. At this point I kept coming back and forth between the front and the back making sure my guest didn’t need anything but their food was not done yet. As I stood there Patty, the head manager, came up to me and asked me if there was something I should be doing instead of standing back there. For some reason both Patty and Bob kept insisting that I should go outside but I didn’t understand why since my table was fine and they were watching the parade.*

As I stood there facing Patty, my friend Geo began to bang on the counter and told me to pick up my food. At this point I was really annoyed because I am not the type of person who just stood around doing nothing and I felt that everyone was picking on me and really wanted me to go outside. I turned around to tell him once again that it was not my food when I felt a bucket of cold water fall on me. At this point both Patty and Bob were standing next to me as I looked at a very familiar face

Right in front of me was the love of my life in the kitchen wearing a food prep costume with a name tag and everything. At the same time Geo slipped a plate with something on it but I was so astonished to see my boyfriend in front of me that I did not realize it was a jewelry box.

The only thing that came out of my mouth was, “What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be back here!! This is bad show!! Seriously, what are you doing here?!!” I thought I was going to get fired right on the spot because my manager and the operations manager were standing right next to me. As he came around the corner I still did not understand what he was doing there. He did not work there and I thought I was going to get in so much trouble because for some reason he felt adventurous enough to come visit me at work. All that was going through my mind was that he was violating company policy. At first I thought maybe someone died and for some reason he felt he had to tell me in person. Everything became a blur after that all I remember is looking around as took my hands and as I looked around I saw Val and my other friends crying.

He got down in one knee and said, “I met you at Disne
yland, we became friends here, we fell in love here, we had our first kiss here, and I felt it was necessary to ask you to marry me here too.”

Wow!! Now I know what it means for time to hold still. He kept saying beautiful things to me as I replied, “HELL YEAH, I’LL MARRY YOU!!” I really do not like being the center of attention so as I realized that everyone was staring at me I began to hide pulling my head over my sweater. He tried to kiss me but I thought it was bad show and then I looked behind me to find Patty crying and laughing all at once. He had arranged the whole thing with Patty and Bob’s permission. I later found out that he planned on proposing to me on his birthday March 31st but since I had begged Patty to give me the day off so I could cook for him they had to switch my schedule to that terrible mid-shift. The reason he wanted to do it on that day (his birthday) was because he had not asked me for anything but wanted to ask me for my hand in marriage. (Aww… he is too cute sometimes!!)

Oh, it took about 25 minutes for me to realize that I had a table waiting for me. I went out there and apologized and explained to them that they had just proposed to me. The little boy asked his mommy what proposed meant and then they congratulated me and gave me a $25 tip.

*The reason they wanted to get me outside was because he was supposed to propose to me in the patio in front of everyone!! LOL!! My bad!! Oh and the proposal was delayed because they had to rush him through Mainstreet while the parade was going on so that I wouldn’t see him when I was outside serving.

April 8, 2007

We waited on telling our families about the engagement because we wanted to tell them in person. We invited my parents and his parents over for Easter in my Aunt Carmen’s house. He had asked me for the ring because he did not want anyone to notice it before we told them so I gave it to him. As we were all sitting down eating he took my hand and got down in one knee and once again said the most amazing things but this time in Spanish. He proposed to me once again in front of all my family. Everyone was crying!! It was great and I could not have asked for more. I did not expect him to do that so I was just as shocked as everyone else was. We did not tell our parents that he had proposed to me a few days earlier because we did not want take that moment away from them. I do not know of any other girl who has gotten proposed to twice.

Top these toppers…!!

cake toppers, Wedding

Now that we have settled the hole cake situation we have to move on what goes on top. Since I didn’t get my wish of using my parents cake topper like I originally wanted I am now in search of the perfect cheesecake topper.

These are funny.

BeauCoup $30-$44

These are all pretty cute.

thepinkkoala $16-$20

RedLightStudio $120

These are just magical.

Lenox $95

Aww… you have to admit these toppers are cutter than your parents traditional white lacy plastic toppers.

I’ll post what topper we went with later on since I haven’t told anyone which one I actually purchased.

On this Memorial Day…!!

Family, memorial day, Wedding

Today brought to mind one of the reasons we chose our wedding date. My cousin is currently serving along with the 148th TC (HET) in Kuwait. We chose our date pending on their arrival back home. He is a huge part of my life and I felt that it was crucial for me to have him there with me at my wedding.

Here are a few pictures of him and his troops:

Do you have anyone in your life who is special enough for you to be willing to schedule your wedding date around them?

Let them have cake…?

cake, Wedding

We have decided to go the unconventional route of not having a cake for our wedding although I do not know how most our guest are going to react to this. Since I love sweets it does not make sense not to have cake but we have opted for cheesecake instead. If we were to have cake though these cakes would be what we would be looking for.

Wishing and waiting for my invites to arrive!!

invitations, Wedding

So I’m sitting at home wishing and waiting for Fedex to get here with our invites. I feels like I’ve been waiting for so long to get them. I’m completely obsessing about it and I know this because I’ve signed up to receive text updates that track my package. The story of our invites is a long one but I’ll sum it up for you.

As soon as I got engaged one of my close friends suggested that if I wanted to order invitation from Indonesia like hers she would help us out. Fast forward a year later we decided to take her up on that offer. We began communicating with a vendor in Indonesia in January of this year. By February we were trying to figure out the design and the cost. In March my FI became concern that the process was going to take too long and shipping cost were going to add up. In April after canceling what I thought was the perfect invite I began my search once again. I am extremely picky when it comes to paper goods. My FI says that nothing impresses me and I think he is right. I know I wanted our invites to be letterpress but our checking account did not agree with me.

This was my friend’s wedding invitation for the people they invited here in the states:

This is an example of the letterpress that I liked. With 2 ink types = more expensive and as you know = a no go for us and our financial future.

Bella Figura

After searching several and I mean several sites for letterpress invitations I decided that I needed to get off my high horse and try to go for something more affordable.

At this point is were I began obsessed with DIY invitations. The problem here was that I wanted nothing but the best and I mean Envelopments and everything. I mean seriously as seen in Martha Stewart. Once again I opted for a cheaper option than that since my time is money and since I don’t have a lot of it. I opted searching once more online.

Oooh the possibilities that awaited me with Envelopments. Since then I have moved on since I realized that I could buy the pocket folds cheaper in different places like:

Paper and More

Paper Source

… but then came the printing. I was still adamant about the ink type. I began to contact local printers and they quoted me about $2 per cardstock. By the time I realized how much everything was adding up to I decided to go back on look at invites that I could just personalize myself.

This in itself was another task as I began ordering countless samples from sites like:

Wedding Paper Divas

And the site that we decided to go with after reading countless reviews was…

The American Wedding

Keep checking my post to see which invites we went with.
